A solo-created animation project that explores the life of a neurodivergent teenager struggling to communicate their needs as an artist, kid, and human. They speak consistently, and even with rhythm, but the viewer is left confused and misunderstood of how they feel. It doesn't take until one person, who is willing to sit and listen, for the character to feel any sense of relief.
The environment reflects their state of mind. It is flat, stage-like, dim, and even gross at times. This, along with the character's puppet-like motion, reinforces a common experience of neurodivergent people who feel the need to "perform" during their day-to-day life. We only see the breakdown of this flatness until another character shows up, compassionate and understanding of their communication differences.
Project assembled and animated in After Effects. Puppet rigging & frame-by-frame animation were used.
